Abstract

ABSTRACT

Aim: The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between attitudes towards e-learning and learning styles from a sports science perspective, and to examine this relationship in the context of demographic and technological variables.

Material and Method: The sample for this study consisted of 836 volunteer students who used e-learning systems for at least one semester in the field of sports science during the COVID-19 pandemic or the Kahramanmaraş-Hatay earthquakes. The data collection tools used in the study were a personal information form, Test of E-Learning Related Attitudes Scale (TELRA) and VARK Learning Style Inventory. Research data were collected between the spring semesters of 2021 and 2024 using both a digital platform and a face-to-face paper method. The research results obtained were analysed using the IBM SPSS (v27) programme.

Results: The analyses revealed that there were significant positive correlations between sports science students' attitudes towards e-learning and their learning styles, with the strongest correlation in online learning environments being found in the auditory learning style (p<0.001). However, it was also found that students' attitudes toward e-learning and learning styles differed significantly based on gender, age, department of study, class level, ownership of a personal computer, and device preference in online learning systems (p<0.05).

Conclusions: Although there are positive correlations between attitudes towards e-learning and learning styles, there is a strong correlation between motivation and satisfaction attitudes in online learning and the auditory learning style. Furthermore, it was concluded that demographic variables such as gender, age, academic unit, and class level, as well as structural factors such as access to technology and preference for electronic devices, are effective in shaping attitudes towards e-learning among sports science students.
